Base on the movie that you have watched in the class, Retell the story in your way
and if you were the main character, what would you do if you were experiencing
the same situation?
Base on the movie that I have watched in the
class is “ The Pursuit Of Happyness “ the retell of the story is. In 1981, in San Francisco, the
smart salesman and family man Chris Gardner invested the family savings in
Ostelo National bone-density scanners, an apparatus twice more expensive than
x-ray with practically the same resolution. The white elephant financially
breaks the family, bringing troubles to the relationship with his wife that
leaves him and moves to New York. Without money and wife, but totally committed
with his son Christopher, Chris sees the chance to fight for a stockbroker
internship position at Dean Witter, vying for one career in the end of six
months training period without any salary with other twenty candidates.
Meanwhile, homeless, he has all sorts of difficulties with his son.
Chris Gardner has big dreams for him and his
family but it doesn't seem to come together for him. Chris has an opportunity
to be a stock broker but first he has to go through a grueling internship which
means no pay. Chris decides to do it but when his wife leaves and he is
evicted, he has to take care of his son on his own. So they find themselves
sometimes living on the street and struggling to get by. But Chris is
determined to make it. One sympathetic prospect takes him and his son to a San
Francisco 49ers game. Regardless of his challenges, Chris never reveals his
lowly circumstances to his co-workers, even going so far as to lend one of his
bosses five dollars for a cab, a sum he can't afford.
Concluding his internship, Chris is called
into a meeting with his managers. His work has paid off and he is offered the
position. Fighting back tears, he rushes to his son's day care, hugging him.
If I were the main character and
experiencing the same situation. I will do the same things
like Chris Gardner.
I will work hard
for my success,
without throw time. Although, it is difficult for me to go through all this.
But, I will try as far as I can do and continue to
pursue it steadily. When we go through challenges and obstacles.
We will appreciate
what we do when they are able to achieve success later.

The summary of the story entitled “ The
Pursuit Of Happyness “ is based on a true story about a man named Christopher
Gardner. Gardner has invested heavily in a device known as a "Bone Density
scanner". He feels like he has made these devices. However, they do not
sell as they are marginally better than the current technology at a much higher
price. As Gardner tries to figure out how to sell them, his wife leaves him, he
loses his house, his bank account, and credit cards. Forced to live out in the
streets with his son, Gardner is now desperate to find a steady job; he takes on
a job as a stockbroker, but before he can receive pay, he needs to go through 6
months of training, and to sell his devices. He struggles to work
his way from unpaid intern at Dean Witter to something more substantial, even
as life continues to offer him setbacks.
2. What are the lessons that you learnt in
this movie?
The lessons that I learnt in this movie is love. For example. Chris
Gardner very loves his family. For especially his sons Christopher Gardner. So willing to
care for he son even though
Chris Gardner has
split with his wife.
The second lesson is. Do not
give up easily. For example, Chris Gardner is not
easily give up work in the stockbroker company. Although he was not paid
for six months working in the company.
The third
lesson is. Responsible attitude. Chris
Gardner have a sense of responsibility as parents to care for and protect her
son. Even though his wife had separated the financial problems. These are the three lessons. I
have learned in this movie “ The Pursuit of Happyness “.
3. If you Chris Gardner, what would you do
to achieve your American Dream?
If I was
Chris Gardner and
what will I do to achieve my American
dream. Is that I will work hard to achieve
my dreams. Whatever the obstacles and challenges . I will try and keep
moving forward. In this way, I can achieve what I want
for this. Even
though it is very hard and difficult for me to go through all these
obstacles. I still work hard. Besides, I
will always be patient
and open minded
to the difficulties.
Only in this way I
can achieve my success. All this does not then
become difficult if I always strive hard to achieve my dream of
success over the years.
4. What does “ HAPPYNESS “ mean in the
movie?
The mean of ‘ Happyness ‘ in
this movie is the pursuit of happiness as simply one's god given right to
commit actions that allow a person to pursue happiness, so long as that pursuit
does not deliberately involve interfering directly or indirectly with the
happiness of others.
It's
impossible to define "happiness", and that's the beauty of the
phrase. It's left to each of us to
define what "happiness" is going to be and how we're going to go
about pursuing it. You don't have the
right to find it, or even to know that you're going to go about it the right
way, but it's the ultimate elastic clause in the Declaration of Independence:
do your own thing if it makes you happy.
According to the United States, the ‘ happyness
‘ is defined as: "...one of the "unalienable rights" of people
enumerated in the Declaration of Independence, along with "life" and
"liberty." " The right to pursue any lawful business or
vocation, in any manner not inconsistent with the equal rights of others, which
may increase their prosperity or develop their faculties, so as to give them
their highest enjoyment."
5. What is/are your personal opinion(s)
about this movie?
In my personal opinion(s) about this movie is In
movie adaptations, details are often tweaked to tighten the storyline and
heighten the drama. I wondered if they had stretched the story too far. And if
it weren't for the tender scenes between father and son, this Will Smith movie
would have been completely depressing. Even so, Gardner's story would not have
been made into a film if it hadn't been inspirational in the first place.
Gardner found happiness. So what does the
pursuit of happiness mean? It's going after your dream. Seems a pretty obvious
definition of happiness, doesn't it? But think about it for a moment.
Gardner didn't have to take that internship.
To make ends meet, he could have gotten any other job. Become a waiter. Or a
salesman in a big corporation. He didn't have to have such lofty ambitions. He
didn't have the education for it. An ordinary man wouldn't have even considered
taking up the challenge. And yet, at the end of his rope. Nearly down to the
last dollar. With the welfare of his son resting on him, he still went after
the big one. Not many have the courage to do that. And that's what the Pursuit
of Happyness means. That is the meaning of happiness. It's going after the big
one. And doing whatever it takes to get it. Was Gardner selfish? If his wife
were still around, she probably would have thought so
But, you know, when you go after your
dreams, you don't just make yourself happy. You make others happy, too. And
because his son was both his responsibility and inspiration, Gardner's ambition
became a selfless one.
